In July, 2003 during a trip back to Athens, Ohio, we encountered
the Big Chimney Baking Company.
No relation to Big Chimney,West Virginia, this bakery was apparently
named for its proximity to a great big smokestack,
part of an old mine in this valley near Canaanville, Ohio, outside
Athens.
It's pictured on our page about Mary
Dewey's ceramics studio, located in the same valley.
And we thought dining al fresco was a
Santa Barbara "thing"!
Another arms-length portrait -- note the smoked salmon on the table.
This package was slightly out of date, and so the proprietor gave
it to us for a snack.
It was smoked, after all, and we figured that protected it,
especially since it was also hermetically sealed!
